Guide
How to measure area from a drawing
For rectangles it is length × width. For L-shapes and awkward rooms, CAD does the maths: draw the outline and tap inside it.
START DRAWING — FREEDraw the outline
Draw the space with lines or a rectangle at real size. Make sure it is closed — the ends must meet.
Tap inside to measure
Pick AREA and tap inside the space. BenCAD shows the area in square metres. Tap PLACE LABEL to keep it on the drawing.
Name rooms with their area
Use room labels to name each room; the area is added underneath automatically.
Uses
Flooring and paint quantities, room size checks for HMO licensing, listing particulars, and quotes.
Questions
Why won't it measure my room?
The outline has a gap. Close it with extend or by redrawing the corner. Door and window blocks count as part of the wall.
